Keeping the Peace
Where did she put the coffee cups today? It would be more ergonomic and save time if everything had its own place in the cupboard. Put cups and glasses on one shelf and plates on another. Seldom used things like platters could go on the top. Sort from small on the left to big on the right. Each dish in its own place. Is that so hard to do? She says I’m obsessive, but just once I’d like to find the can opener in the first drawer I try.
And the fridge is even worse. I swear she randomly rearranges the condiments while I’m napping. Why are there always two bottles of mustard open? And three jars of jam? Let’s use up one before opening another. And put the leftovers in front so they aren’t forgotten. Why do I have to hunt through soda cans to find a beer? Life would be a lot simpler if she’d just be more organized. Still, I love her, and I know she’s not going to change. And after forty years, I’ve learned the best way to keep the peace is to keep these thoughts to myself.
