The clock ticks past one AM,
eyelids droop closed,
my iPad slips off the pillow
on which it was propped.
I remove my glasses,
slip further under the covers
and put aside the drama
of a war long passed.
But, will her flyboy return?
Will both girls escape
from the bomb-collapsed basement?
Maybe just one more chapter.

The story is based on historical facts, built around Eisenhower's idea for the American Red Cross to send donuts and coffee trucks manned by young women to the front lines. There were 73 "Club Mobiles" staffed by 3 girls each, that followed our troups right into Germany. Fascinating story, written by the son of one of these volunteer women.
