from every direction,
and when we least expect them.

Once a person proclaims, "I believe!"
The Lord sends us tests
to help us overcome faults,
make us firm and steadfast,
and increase our trust in God.

Letter From the Editor

What is a test of faith? A test of faith can be anything that causes us to question our own preconceived ideas about the world. It can be anything that causes us to question our decision to believe in God. It can be something that causes us to question our choice of religion or spiritual path.

Where do tests of faith come from? Tests of faith may appear to come from family, friends, acquaintances, strangers, or events happening in the world around us. However, in their essence, tests of faith come from God. A test of faith may come in the form of a news article, an essay, short story, poem, a pandemic, a war, or a natural disaster.

Why do we encounter tests of faith? The Creator sends us tests of faith out of love. They are intended to help us stand firm and steadfast in our chosen spiritual path, overcome our faults, strengthen our soul's spiritual virtues, and increase our trust in God.

How can we pass or overcome tests of our faith? The first thing we need to remember is that God does not test us beyond our abilities. True, sometimes a person fails the test the first time they encounter it, but that does not mean they cannot pass the test. Failing a test means a person has work to do on themselves and their inner life or thought processes.

In order to pass a test faith a person needs to pray, meditate, and read the sacred scriptures of their chosen spiritual path. It also helps to confess to the Lord, rather than another human being, their fears and doubts about themselves or other individuals in their lives.
