The City That Never Sleeps

Dawn breaks,
light stabbing through gunmetal clouds,
but she's already awake, alert,
a constant drone of activity
humming a steady tune
in sync with the city's heartbeat.

Neon lights
in bright, bold colours
punctuate the ambient glow
that infuses the night.

Metallic reflections echo
with futuristic visages,
a dance of glass
and plasma,
a whirl of feverish man-made motion.

Hard and strong,
tough and sharp.
She never lets her guard down.
