The Daily Grind

Warm goose down duvet,
snuggly husband.
Snooze.
Go away, morning.

Morning persists,
infuriatingly stubborn.

Steve farts
and chuckles.
I bolt out,
glaring.
Bastard.

Long faces on kids,
feet dragging.
"HURRY UP!"
Tick. Tock.
Late again.
Your fault, my fault,
whatever.
Still late again.

Mumble a good morning,
even though it never is.

Looking busy,
all a fiction -
busy surfing.
Resent the menial tasks
from self-important colleagues.

Battling rush hour,
late again.
Just one more poem.
Just gotta finish this review.

Congealed meal,
cold, uninviting.
"Get in your pajamas!"
"Why are you still up?"

Finally, peace and quiet.
Relax.
Feet up.
Escape into a book.
