Challenging Poetry

wanting

I dreamed a room
filled with all the books
ever written or never written,
the vast imaginings of
creative minds made manifest in
rows and shelves and piles
before me, and I despaired
like a child faced with Halloween
candy, unable to chose one
because she wanted them all,
and woke, shivering,
throat dry and aching.
