First Confession

In my thoughts & in my words,
in what I have done,
& in what I have failed to do

I am a child thinking
about sinning, because
I must. Think, & sin.

I need something
for Father Burton
in the confessional.

Bless me father, for I have sinned.

In my thoughts:
thinking I don't want to make
this first confession,
& I hate that I have no choice

& in my words:
when I said to my father
that church was boring
that no god was there

in what I have done:
once I feigned illness
to stay home from Mass

& in what I have failed to do:
anything worth
a true confession
to my agnostic mind

I will do penance.
I will take my
three Hail Marys,

full of grace. I confess
I like the poetry.
