I wake to a lavender sunrise,
Beautiful beyond imagination.
Rising, I look out the window into the garden
Thick with blooming roses.
An unexpected kindness, given my circumstances.

I listen to the bustle of servants
Preparing the morning meal;
The clank of silverware echoes in my hearing
As I come down the stairs, muscles burned
While I come down the stairs with hardened grip on the rail.

I am greeted by my parents, smiles like melted butter;
They are dripping with insincere praise -like mud that clouded the water.
In determined honesty, I return their greeting;
Knowing soon that I will be free of their grip.

I shall leave this gilded prison and
Face the future on my own;
Independently making my own choices.
My arms up in triumph.
