Gathering Souls and Memories

I gather each soul and memory.
They taunt me, and with every sigh,
they become my enemy.

I stand watch for a century,
a thousand fold of days gone by.

Eternity’s work leaves me empty,
tormented by every tortured cry.
They become my enemy.

Tattered wings of spirits flee,
but cannot escape my watchful eye.
I gather each soul and memory

I stand here above the writhing sea,
bound by obligation, and wonder why
they become my enemy.

All Hallow's Eve will see me
tending my duties 'neath October's sky.
