Fads of the 2000s
As a child of the eighties I can hardly complain
about fads and their passing crazes.
I look back now on the noughties,
and cringe at the use of internet phrases.
OMG, LOL and BRB
started to be used in actual speech,
and those nuts who promoted the Atkins diet
seemed to be everywhere, prepared to preach.
Music wasn’t awful, but what’s with auto tuning?
Cher’s Believe was the first one with that.
Ipods and MP3s were good though,
and person to person sharing was where it was at.
My son wanted heelys – shoes with wheels,
and a Razor scooter if I’d be so kind.
My godson wanted Beyblades for gifts if you please,
I was on a mission to see which I could find.
I did get sucked into the energy drink fad,
I’m embarrassed to admit it, but it is true.
And Myspace? Not really my thing,
but I did have an account there too.
These fads and phases will come and go,
as they have for each generation of kid.
Sadly, they will probably cycle around again,
just like Care Bears and jelly shoes did!
