The career [Week 28 entry]

The career


The day I wandered down a street
an Army guy I chanced to meet.
A captain said, "Just raise your hand
and you'll be off to train tout de suite!"

A score and more I've served our land
in Texas getting really tanned.
Youth's coming now to take its turn,
then my parade with Army band!

Someday I will no longer yearn
to wear the green. Instead, I'll burn
and ne'ermore see my hearth and home.
But I won't care - I'll have my urn.
