The Muse Around Us/In Us
Writing Prompt for Sept 2nd

Your Elusive Creative Genius - Elizabeth Gilbert - TED Talks

After watching this video, I have to admit that there are days when writing doesn't make any sense. In fact, I wonder, "Why am I even bothering?"

It is natural to have fears and doubts when creating something: Music, Film, Dance, Writing...any of these wonderful, maddening gifts. I guess it is easier to blame a "genie" or "genius" or a "daemon" for the anguish and frustration of incomplete thought, or not knowing where to go next, than to admit that "I just don't have it today".

I marvel at how easy it is for me sometimes to just type out a poem; other days, not so much. But I trust that even if I do not do anything else but write poetry or stories, or whatever writing I do, for just the enjoyment it brings me, then I have been a success. If someone else likes my musings, bonus!

I am grateful to have heard this author speak about the subject of Muses. She was articulate, yet down to earth. She injected humor into her talk, and it was very effective. She also gave a reassuring calm in that whatever the creative outlet you embark on, just keep doing it. You will get there, eventually.

An amazing speaker.
