C3 - Enormous Creatures
Looking after a gigantic pet would be, well challenging doesn't quite do the task justice. Suppose I had a dog of disproportionate dimension. Can you imagine having to take her a walk, across several counties. I have to say if she saw a squirrel, there would be no way I could stop her launching after it. Then there's food. Bigger dog, bigger appetite. Even supposing I could afford it, the logistics of getting a few lorry loads of Winalot's finest delivered, and opening all those cans. What would I feed her in? A skip? I don't even want to think about doggy bags.

So a cat then? Yes, because we'd all like to co-exist with a stealthy sharp fanged silent killer who happens to be seven foot or more at the shoulder. Next.

A bunny. Now we are talking, nice vegetarian rabbit, all soft and fluffy. I'm sure that there must be a farmer somewhere that wouldn't mind rolling off those 'boulders' that keep appearing, and somehow converting them into fertiliser. After all we'd need fields full of hay to keep her happy. Then again, perhaps not.

You know, I'm thinking that a giant parrot might be just the thing. Imagine fitting it up with a harness, and flying on its back as it soars over the fields and villages and towns. In search of the cracker factory! Oh dear. Now I'm imagining The Hobbit, but with Smaug as a parrot on top of its cracker hoard. Or maybe it would be Smaulk, that sounds a little more parrotesque.

Of course I'm thinking huge here. A slightly larger pet might be do-able. Hmm, how about a giant sized miniature pony? Or a larger than life miniature poodle? I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this.

Perhaps a parrot perchance. With a wing span as wide as an eagle's? Yes I think I'd like that. Parrots are pretty intelligent, not to mention precocious. Perched on my wrist, chattering away, with phrases it has picked up in passing. For example, "Put me down, no, no don't try to fly with me still attacchhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaargh! Smaulky wants a cracker."

A possibility does present itself. I could have a pet that ordinarily wouldn't be possible. A tardigrade, those microscopic water bears or moss piglets, scaled up to the size of a hamster. Now we are talking. I have no idea what it would eat, but I'm sure I could sort something out, and it would definitely be a talking point. I'd name her Hermine after the character in Hesse's Steppenwolf, just because.
