reasons
because when I laugh, I turn to see your smile.
because when I close my eyes,
I ache for you.

because, yesterday, at the store I heard
your voice from the corner of my ear
but you're gone, forever,
and I found myself buying your favorites
the things I never eat anymore.

because when I wake,
I turn to where you should be
and miss you again.

because the world glows green with new life
and the air fills with flower petals
drifting from fruit trees
and daffodils nod, white and gold
in my front garden
and you're not here to share it with me.
because spring makes me lonely for you

because your absence swallows me.
because without you,
I am only a ghost of who I was
when you were here.
