I don't remember
the way you laughed at my theatrics
de là flirty, or the first-kiss feeling
and
I don't remember
the sun when your smile made me shine
inside, or tossing back jiggers of joy
and
I don't remember
the moment skies turned Georgia peach
fresh-picked, my blush at your proposal
and
I don't remember
the day we said we'd try to build a kid -
just one, a child creative and so kind
and
I don't remember
the sweetness of the wind in Cape Cod
summers, upon our baby, toddler, boy
and
I don't remember
the first time he grabbed my glasses,
hitting, kicking, no holds barred no sir
and
I don't remember
the 3,884 days since we placed him
elsewhere, a decision gone desperate
and
I don't remember
the exact date on the divorce decree
signed, a judge's crafty Christmas card
and
I don't remember
the decision to write about another mess
spilled here, my sadly self-indulgent sop.
