Decay

Down among the detritus,
the damp, dank leaves,
where rot turns humus into soil,
and light is sifted through
lace skeletons of another year,
secret movement tells another tale,
the earthworm draws his littered trail,
silverfish hides beneath a stone,
centipedes hunt in the shadows,
and life proceeds from death.
