The Certainty of Youth

This may be a memory too small
yet it persists, over sixty years,
and it’s certainly quiet, concerning,
as it does, a game of hide and seek.
Out in the fields behind our street
we found a convenient hidey hole.
Spied the seeker, ducked down knowing
if we can’t see him, he can’t see us.
