A Lifespan

A Lifespan

Life is a bridge between birth and death
but not a Golden Gate or Firth of Forth;
it’s an old suspension bridge in the jungle,
showing its years in the missing ropes,
the misplaced and broken boards,
single track and weather worn above
the swollen, urgent and silt-laden waters
that hasten, heedless, to the ocean.
