Aesthetic Money

I do love a new coin, freshly minted, sharp,
brightly hued in copper, silver, something like gold,
shining amidst its fellows, tarnished and dirtied
with age and use, the patina of every day.

It strikes me now that these reflections
might be meaningless to a generation raised
in the world of plastic, virtual transactions,
their pockets coinless, and paper rarely seen.
