Listen

Listen, finger raised to still the air,
listen, ruler slammed upon the desk,
listen, earnest interjection quiet,
listen, don’t join the slogan-chanting,
listen, now the bedtime story starts,
listen, two ears but one mouth only,
listen, the request so rarely heard,
listen, and wait for wisdom’s whispers.
