The movie, I Am Not Ashamed, is based on the true story of one of the students that were killed in the Columbine High School shooting in the 1990s, Rachel Joy Scott. The movie starts by giving some of her back story. Later, this shows how she was able to connect with other kids who had similar experiences. It also shows how she becomes a Christian.

Before converting to Christianity, Rachel is a typical rebellious teenager. She drinks smokes and sneaks out of her parent's house to go to parties with her friends. After her conversion, the movie shows her struggles as she desires to be more like Christ. She continues to go to parties and hang out with certain friends until she feels betrayed.

Rachel has her real come-to-Jesus moment when she chooses to be a Christian no matter what it costs her. This is when her real change occurred. She was faced with publicly forgiving the ones who had betrayed her. She became a friend to less popular people. She decided to make everyone aware that she was a Christian.

There is the plot between the two boys in trench coats who decided to do the shooting. This movie attempts to show what is going on in their heads. They are shown preparing and making plans leading up to and on the day of the shooting. These boys end up turning the guns on themselves in the end.

Make sure you have a box of tissues ready for use before you sit down to watch this movie. Rachel Joy Scott is their first victim and was killed simply because she refused to deny her faith in Jesus Christ. I was in tears as I watched the story unfold of how she was killed and her friends and family being shown grieving over the loss of her. This is a very emotional film.

There is some actual footage of news coverage after the school shooting. The President is shown talking and it shows the police leading some of the Students out to safety with all the emergency vehicles surrounding them.

Rachel Scott draws a mysterious drawing in her journal before her death. This ends up representing the 13 students, including herself, that was killed on April 20, 1999.

I recommend watching this movie because it shows the reality of the struggle teenagers face among their peers. It shows the struggle of following one’s faith even when it is not the popular thing to do.

Rachel Joy Scott wanted to make a difference, and change the world to make it a better place. She willingly sacrificed her life for her belief in God. As a result, her life and death did have an impact on her world. Her story has touched thousands of lives.
