Excuse my ignorance! I popped off recently that I didn't know what Juneteenth was all about and didn't really care. I thought it was probably some hair brained holiday somebody cooked up. However, I did some investigating, and Juneteenth is a celebration of the last slaves being freed in a US State. I agree that is worth celebrating. I always hated the idea of slavery for no human being is better than another. No human should ever own another. I go on record holding that position. Now that I know what Juneteenth is, I'm in favor of it. I just wish it was called something else! I understand however that the slaves knew it was June and in the third week but weren't sure of the date. Thus "Juneteenth." "Prompt: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? 12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Do you have other Christian friends, a group of people you can go to when times are tough? If so, let's talk about them. If not, what actions can we take to build ourselves a support system made up of other Christians?" I have a whole group of Christian friends I can go to. I remember announcing on social media that I was having by-pass surgery. People from all over the world kept track of me for weeks after that. They are still on my social media feed. My church is my group as well. I would call them my anchor, but God is my anchor. The church serves my God. I have been swamped. I was starjacked by Klingons and sold to Romulans. On the way I saw a star.
I agree. What we do can often hurt the innocent. My dad was in jail when I was a child for a crime it was later proven he did not commit. He spent four years in prison for it. He missed most of my childhood and as a result we never really bonded. I wish we could have. |
