The best time
PROMPT March 24th

Write about some of your most memorable vacations. Where did you go? Who were you with? What was your favorite part of the trip?

It is never the time you ate great meals, or read ten books lying next to a blue lagoon that you’ll remember. No, it’s always the times things went terribly wrong that stick in your memory and the tales you will relate.
If I listed all the times we were inconvenienced or angry at each other over some missed mode of transport one would think we’d had a dreadful time. But it’s those times which give colour and texture to what otherwise would have just been a good lie down.
So I’ll tell you about a few hair raising events or downright annoyances but these didn’t detract or ruin our vacations.

A bad injury falling off a cycle rickshaw in Vietnam

Being caught in a Typhoon in Manila

Food poisoning in Vietnam

Getting on a train in India having booked a first class cabin after weeks of travelling third class and finding out we’d missed the train by a day. Then being relegated to sharing an overnight apartment with six drunken Indian men.

Discovering we’d selected a brothel as our hotel in Mumbai.

Bed bugs in Thailand.

Tsunami in Sri Lanka.

Other than those mishaps, we had wonderful times. Honestly 🤣
