The 30 DBC prompt for February 8, 2017 is "Which song about a person, real or imaginary, do you feel best sums up your personality? It doesn't even have to be a song that references someone specific; it can be about a certain type of person, a group of people, or an occupation, etc"

My answer to that is a song originally sang by the very talented Linda Ronstadt and later became a smash hit for the best recording group since the dawn of time: the Eagles. It is "Desperado".

I don't know how many times I have sat and stewed in my own misery thinking how I could relate to the character in "Desperado". Like him I was always moving, always drifting and leaving nothing but a wake of destruction in my path. I destroyed relationships, fractured a few laws, did all sorts of things a desperate person might do because I was desperate to find somebody to fix me. I finally ran into a therapist who saw right through me and started calling me on my nonsense. I hated that man but he was the best counselor I ever had! I know that now because he wasn't intimidated by me and wasn't afraid to plant a foot squarely in my backside.

He started me on a long road that included help from 12 step programs, self help books, and a lot of personal hard work to recover from a personality disorder, an addiction, and a mental illness. Between the work and my faith I have not had to use a chemical except my medication in eight years. I have grown a ton. I have a life today and most importantly I like myself. My desperado days are over. In fact my clean date is tomorrow, February 9. If I do today what I did yesterday, I believe I can make it until tomorrow without a drug, including alcohol.
