I read a poem on the wall of a church, the author of which was anonymous. It said "It's better to leave some words unspoken, than it is to mend the heart those words have broken."
Those words are absolutely on target. The New Testament writer James compared the tongue to a wild fire. It burns everything in it's sight and is virtually uncontrollable. The same tongue that is used to lavish praise can also kill with its words. Let us bear this in mind when we go to speak out in anger. Once the words have been spoken there is no way of taking them back. The damage is immediate. We must ask ourselves two things. 1) Would I say the things I am going to say to another to myself or allow them to say them to me? 2) Can I picture Jesus saying it?
