'Poetic' sketches woven from my trip to the Baker Wetlands on Saturday:

Autumn cottonwood

She hugs the tree
that forever leans towards the dawn:
deep ridged, lichen crusted,
grey and gold.
It holds
fast to the ground;
it's proud crown quivers.
And we both know:
it will still stand there
when she's gone. [163.408a]

Chimney swift tower

Grey white feathers
scatter below the summer
roost of swifts.
Time slows
to the flapping of hawk wings
struggling against the wind.
A red-black beetle crawls
over some abandoned golden fruit.
The feathers are ignored.

Here under the empty
home of swifts,
there is this sense of stepping aside,
of letting go. [163.408b]

*Leaf3* MY LIFE

Still ill. Managed to meet Krista today and I'll see Susan tomorrow, but this cough, phlegm, wheezing isn't a good sign. I have dreams of waking up in a hospital. The nightmare would be waking up in worse places, like the streets.

It was good to hear from Nada the other day. We banged heads together but didn't come up with any solutions as to what I'm going to do. Doesn't matter. I love hearing from Nada!

Anyone have suggestions of where I could move to? "Go to Hell" has already been mentioned, but it is a bit cliché, don't y'think?

*Leaf1* POETRY? YOU CALL THIS POETRY?

Do you pronounce Cheney as "chainee" or "cheenee"? I've heard both. My mind's just stuck in 2nd gear for Duck's Spinning Nouns Contest. I had to put computer mouse (my item) with the emotion 'terror'. This isn't up to par, but it's all I got:

My computer tells me who stole the V.P.'s cheese:

I once knew a mouse that knew Bush,
who shook with a hush and a shush:
"You must'nt tell Cheney
that old crusty meanie
or he'll unplug my tail from my tush." [163.414]

"My computer tells me who stole ...Open in new Window.

I sent my ghazal to Khalish's contest. I had to redo it to make it more ghazal-like ... It now has it's own item: "Above the sky, the pain belowOpen in new Window.

I'll have to clean and consolidate my portfolio soon. I'm up to 248 items and my max is 250. I know I can do it - just need to remember at an appropriate time. *Smile*

Sketched yesterday at Henry's on Old Henry Street:

Death is afraid

Under the red umbrellas of the coffeehouse,
Death sits silent in the extra cream and sugar,
the pockets full of drugs,
the cancer sticks so proudly lit,
the sly come-on, come-hither.
It waits invisible,
entranced by conversations
of how the

World
         Will
                   End.

It trembles.

Without life,
there'll be no place for Death on Earth. [163.411]

*Leaf2* BLOGVILLE

Blogvillians who wish to join the most recent outbreak of the Duck Wars need to go to Nada Author Icon's interactive: "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window.

And everyone seems to be going to Africa to see this:

I haven't figured out how to use it yet. *Frown*

I've tried to catch up on reading blogs, but I still have about 30 to go.

At last chalaedra is situated and blogging again. She has a wonderful entry about her oak tree: "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window.. malaya Author Icon has photos of the three cockatiel chicks at "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window.. Scottiegazelle Author Icon is apparently moving, and pregnant to boot. And there are a whole bunch of folks in Missouri and Illinois just getting over the World Series hangover. Their blog entries tend to favor the color red. *Rolleyes*

Dear alfred booth, wanbli ska Author Icon put some of my poems in his entry: "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window. and responded in "Invalid EntryOpen in new Window.. He is looking for opinions of which of his are best to make a booklet of Than-Bauk. I have more that I'll put in my next blog entry! *Pthb*

*Leaf3* READING

Came across an awesome Polish writer, Marzanna Kielar, who writes about the North of Poland. She is well versed in nature and geology. I came across her book-in-translation, "Salt Monody".

*Leaf1* WATT'S GNUS

That would be in the previous entry!

QUOTE OF THE DAY

" ... narrow blade of the moon's skate scratches the ice-sheet.
Time splits like a hewn stone; along the brittle bright vein of that love ..."
