Tupac and more poetry
Have you read Tupac Shakur's poetry? 'The Rose that Grew from Concrete' is awesome. Have you made funeral/burial plans? Intuey tells you why you should. 4 poetic sketches! Persian poems have inspired me recently.

Remembering Tupac

The Rose that Grew from Concrete

Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it
learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping it's dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.

Do we appreciate the artistry of the artist? I really love the above poem. To me it speaks of struggle and triumph. I wish it were my story. I wish I would've written it! *Bigsmile* Many knew the poet, Tupac for his music career. Only after death is his poetry coming more to light. Born in 1971, Tupac Shakur died ten years ago, September 13, 1996. Like many poets he died young.

MY LIFE

On Tuesday, the writing group looked at two of my poems 'Poor in Kansas' and 'Bowling'. Both were accepted warmly. I got some good feedback on the second one, may change the title to 'Bowling with Dad'. It confused some folks, which is fine, but I'll have to reread it to decide whether some ambiguity is good or bad.

I went with Gastón and we went out to Miltons, an upscale restaurant here in town. Had asparagus tips with prosciutto and potato gnocchi. It was good, but I don't like restaurants. Thankfully it wasn't over $10. Next time, I suggested Jade Garden where I can keep it under $5. Both of us could eat for under $10! I just can't see wasting money on food. I think of all the other ways to spend it. At least Gastón has an interesting job helping in the formation of development projects in Latin America and the Caribean. He hopes to be back in December and next May.

A couple people approached me for copies of my poetry Thursday at Tea at Three! I was surprized. I'm continuing with the format of printing it as a negative. I used neon lemon yellow paper. Not easy to read in 8 pt.! But quite distinctive. *Laugh*

Other than making it to Tea, it was been a quiet day.

Last night I fried up cod and okra. I like fish.

*Reading*READING*Reading*

Finished reading a bunch of Persian poems and Borges' 'The Garden of Forking Paths'. I've started 'Artifices'. 'The Art & Craft of Poetry' by Michael J Bugeja is awesome. I recommend poets to buy it.

PUBLISHING

Well ... still no news on Kansas English. I haven't seen a copy of it yet.

I look at cards with ginkgos on the front. Pricy, $15/6, I think. But, I write on ginkgo leaves and they are 'ready' for writing on. If I thought of 6 friends and wrote six poems, I could make a small booklet for them ... or something like that! *Smile* I always have ideas.

POULTRY, POETRY, WHATEVER

Wrote alot at the Oread bookstore yesterday.

Melody of reeds

I dream of reeds that grow around the pond
on the other side of the hill;
my soul wanders where my body cannot follow.

Feeling them waving in the breeze, I cut
one hollow length to pour out sadness, joy.
Empty of myself, I sing your name.

And every blackbird perched on cattails
does the same. A symphony
lies on the other side of the hill
where my soul sings to the melody of reeds.

Moonlight in the garden of madness

He begs, One kiss cool mistress,
before your light goes out
and all is darkened save for stars.

Do not fear, She answers,
In three days I'll come back reborn,
and for a fortnight hold you in my glow.

He claws the earth and builds a cave.
In the garden of his madness
he waits for moonlight.

[163.355] Inspired by Mu'izzi Nishaburi

Qais is his name

Before he lost his wits
and fled here to this emptiness
of wide horizons, this grass and sky,
he had a name.

Now only yours will leave his lips.
In the hours that he knew you,
in those moments when he heard your voice
laughter would fill his void.
They echo still inside him.

Once a dark-haired boy responded to his name.
Since knowing you he has forgotten all
and never been the same.

Love came to me blue flamed and golden

Love came to me blue flamed and golden
but I was fast asleep. Awake, eyes opened
I could not see the beat of heart
and thus dismissed you as a passing thought.
I erred. And since have prayed each day
a thousand syllables, each night
a thousand sighs. But love
came once blue flamed and golden.
You smiled. Then passed me by.

Oread at the vesper hour:

The slant of sun; a woman's shadow; her turn of page; the background music a suffering sigh; the flow of ink from pen; the tops of tables stacked with books; the empty couch; across the Persian carpet, once again, the slant of sun; it's traverse slow beyond perception.

Spenser at dusk:

There's a certain buzz that the squirrel makes as he gnaws open a walnut. The gnash of teeth as he holds a nut in his hands. This is the Season of Falling Branches, torn off the oak and scattered across the ground. The squirrel heeds the harmony of seasons and this is autumn's wake-up call.

Her entry "Would your family know what to do and what to say?Open in new Window. is essential reading. She urges everyone to make funeral/burial plans to make it easier on everyone.

I've gotten up to 120 unique WDC viewers (it's in your stats). This is in part due to reading a helluva lot of blogs. It is work to build a readership and keep it. Some folks want to be entertained and I don't have the humor for that. Others want to expand their minds, or want a clear argument, or want a window into someone's personal life. Others do that better than I. As writers and readers we are all different.

I extend a heartfelt thank-you to those who visit my door and enter and leave kind comments here.

TREASURE OF THE DAY

If the unthinkable happened and God decided today was the day to call you or one of your loved ones home. Would the person/s responsible for final arrangements know what to do, what to say, where all the papers are kept, where your safety deposit box/key is kept, and all other things that are important? Do you have things left unsaid that you would not want to leave this earth without telling that special person? We don't like to think about things like this, but we need to. The only thing that makes losing a loved one worse, is when we lose a loved one and no plans for their death are at hand.
