WILMA, RITA, KATRINA: a sonnet
WILMA, RITA, KATRINA: a sonnet
[Can they subdue man?]
Man cannot by a Wilma be humbled,
Nor he can by Rita be thrown off guard.
He cannot by Katrina be crumbled;
He’s not afraid of the El Nino’s sword.
He made man truly in his own image
To rule the world that lies under his feet.
Man can’t by nature be held in bondage.
From rock and sea he can’t accept defeat.
Upheavals in earth and ocean cannot
Displace man from his own abode on land.
With courage he will be able to win
As long as he has his logic at hand.
God does support man’s confidence in self.
But, foolish man, don’t confront God Himself.
NOTE: WILMA, RITA and KATRINA were category 5 cyclones that occurred in 2005 and caused much devastation.
