WIFE AND THORN
WIFE AND THORN

[Does wife prick? Or, does she cut?]

When I was in college my
Friend one day did so fret,
Which I have till this day been
Unable to forget.

He said: Do remember this
That it is but the wife,
Who, like a knife, does sever
The husband’s thread of life.

Now that I am older by
Double of two decades,
Let me look at the query:
Does the wife send to Hades?

Though it is true that often
A wife may cause the strife,
It would be too much to say
That she is like a knife.

In the end by saying this,
Let me, argument, close:
A wife can be compared to
The thorn along the rose.

*A mild counterpart of the poem:"HUSBANDS AND DOGSOpen in new Window.
