Blood & Bone
Under merciful cloud cover
& a brimming felt hat I,
now a mouth -breather,
rake blood & bone
through garden soil. I will inhale,
later, scents of every colour,
delight in the flavour of berries.
I will gaze at rioting blooms,
take it all in with five senses,
but now I’m laying blood
& bone, & I am barely breathing.
