| I judge April an accomplishment for cousin Brian, in his cave, who wishes every night to stay asleep and wakes to hope for no tomorrow I judge May best of all the months for she slams the door on snow; she makes of mud a garden to encourage and sprouts wonder latent in us all I judge June the brightest study for aunt Pat, the tired giver, who predicts the sun a-setting on my uncle and makes days of summer into prayer I judge July a heavy hive for she's honey in the year of tea - drizzles over ice, dreams over bees and whispers, heated hints of endings I judge August as production crew for my swimming son, the man who enacts a boy in this perpetual play and performs at pools and waterparks I judge September as the scepter for the solstice, all ceremony, who slows the roll on holidays and growth and allows another imposing autumn. note ▼ |
