my gothic folly
in my vast garden,
erected for me,
my costly contrivance,
my mock-gothic folly,

serving no
practical
purpose

but ornamental
temperamental
funky, fun & funda -
mental

pointed arches
to the point
flying buttresses
over the moon
ribbed vaults
in criss-cross

in my crazy folly
with my stained-glass
eyes, my widow’s walk,
& a gargoyle’s
spouting mouth,

I am hermit
or I am queen,
freed from serving
practical
purpose,

ornamental
not accidental
sentimental
flower-gentle
fundamental
mental
