RoE D4 Pt 19

“We don’t need a guardian,” said Shawn.

“On the contrary,” said Andrew, “I will be working for you as strictly a legal advisor. From what I’ve been told you and your friends have yourselves in quite a pickle. While I can’t advise any of the others, I’m here simply to counsel you.”

Andrew shuffled through some papers and handed one to Tom Ferguson. “This states that, unless you have evidence of my clients committing a crime you will not be able to detain them.”

Dean slid the contract closer to himself and perused it briefly before taking the pen and signing it. “It’s not going to hurt us, Shawn.”

Shawn gave Andrew a sidelong glance then moved to the bed to sign the contract. He stood up straight and smoothed his shirt, then yanked down Andrew by his shoulder and whispered to him.

Andrew listened, gave Shawn a nod, and stood back up. “My clients want time to confer amongst themselves. Please leave the room and avoid any further contact until the morning.”

“While Rob is out of here, I’m going to do some looking around,” said Darrel. He headed up to the office.

Kristin sang to herself as she gathered up and washed the dishes. She missed having all the comforts of the Tunning house. When she was done cleaning up, she went back to their section. Something made her think of when they had seen her Aunt Shelby and feeling her shove something in Kristin’s pocket. Kristin looked to see what it was. She found a roll of $20 bills wrapped neatly in a rubber band. She opened the roll and counted out $240. Kristin thought it might just come in handy now that they couldn’t contact Mitch.

Kristin wasn’t as worried about Mitch as she was the boys. Something had spooked Shawn and Dean just before their escape from the Tunning house. There hadn’t been a chance to confront them about it. Kristin couldn’t help but feel there was something very wrong.
