daily poem Baghdad War Love Story

Baghdad War Bride

Sam Johnson met his wife during the chaos of the Iraq invasion. His unit had come under heavy fire and finally broke through a makeshift barricade and ended up in a café with terrified locals. Sam, the captain, ordered the restaurant staff to identify themselves. A young woman stood up and offered to translate. She was the daughter of the owner. And very atrractive. It was love at first sight. After the battle was over a few days later he went back to the café and and had dinner and talked with her. She had been a English language college student when the invasion began. She had learned how to speak English watching smuggled in DVDs of American movies and TV shows which were very popular among younger people and she played some of them for him, she particularly liked the old three stooges comedies which amused Sam as he too was a big stoggie fan. Sam started going to the café whenever he had free time. Her parents were opposed at first but came around when they realized that if they got married they would be able to go to the states in a few years and they were ready to immigrate as the country lay in ruins. And Sam seemed like a decent chap, he was trying to learn Arabic. Her father finally told Sam he had his blessing. Sam filed the paperwork and she left with him when his tour end.

In chaos of war
Two soul mates found each other
Love overcame hat

Write a Haibun about two competing forces of nature, but it’s a tragic love story like Romeo and Juliet.
