You are my sunshine,
the first song I taught you.
We would sing in the car
though we never sang
the sad, second verse.
I sing it now
at the adult dementia day stay
where I work.
We sing the sad, second verse.
Someday, I imagine
you and I will sing it again, together
along that long, bumpy road
to old age and beyond.
