A1 Through the Looking Glass
A1 "Reflections" – We just got through a tupsy-turvy 2023. Reflect on lessons learned, and how you will use them in the year 2024. (<1000 words)
Life is tough.
I had so many challenges in 2023. Missing grandson, injured knee and surgery, broken hand and ongoing problems. Car accident and lack of a vehicle - still. Angst and angina - anxiety and anger - all aged me at least five years it seems.
There is a saying ‘that which does not kill you makes you stronger’. Well, let me tell you, I have had so many injuries to body and soul over my lifetime that I am ready to compete in a strong woman contest.
I am still fighting a broken hand, even though the bones have healed the damage remains. Seems nerves take at least a year to heal. And this injury entails nerves around the wrist. Lucky for me, if you want to consider this luck, it is my left hand. Since I use my right hand for most everything, I am getting quite prodigious with one hand and three fingers for most everything. But, the pain remains.
Then there is the challenge of no car of our own. So we are borrowing a vehicle. It is now 10 months since the accident that took our Subaru. We have a Jeep. But it is in pieces being rebuilt. And that takes time when the person rebuilding it is doing it on nights and weekends. Lots of time. Too much time. Ugh. Good thing I keep telling myself that we live in a small town where I can walk everywhere. So we just drive the loaner car when we need to go to the big city for doctor appointments.
So, on the plus side, I am writing for the local paper. I got my first check from them. Hurrah! Not much. But hey! It’s money for writing for the first time ever. And they seem to like what I’ve done so far.
I pray 2024 is a better year. I pray I get my hand healed, we get our car finally. And I pray another problem I have, eye issues, is solved. Then I feel that I can finally let out a big sigh and get back to a somewhat normal state of being. Whatever that is. I seem to have forgotten.
