H1- And the Moral of That Is…
… Always study! It’s cheesy coming from an educator, but here’s my story of redemption. *Laugh*

Science has never been my strong point. Never has, doubtfully ever will. 7th grade science was no exception. We were on a biology unit and studying the heart. Bleh. Boring stuff and intricate, simultaneously. At one point we were expected to know the order of the blood flow through the various parts of the heart. Our science teacher made sure of it by having people face off and alternate naming the next part in the flow. In front of the class.
Keep in mind I was a fairly decent student with a pretty solid memory. I figured by listening to my classmates as they faced off, I could memorize what I needed. As a result, I never bothered to study for that portion of class.
I think you can predict what happens next. *Laugh*

Finally, my day comes and the teacher calls me up. He also calls up one of the “too cool for school” girls in my class. I figured it’d be an easy win. The teacher starts us off, giving us a starting point. I get a couple right, she gets a couple right, but our combined “right”ness was definitely unimpressive. *Rolling* He rips us apart in front of everyone (as he tends to do) and calls us both “slackers”- his favorite word for kids who don’t do their work. It was the one and only time I’ve ever been called that, and I still chuckle at it today.

BUT that’s because I went home that night, found a website that had a “parts of a heart” game, and I played it until I was solid on the whole process.

The other girl, with her personality, definitely did not. Lo and behold, he called us back up the next day. I started it off strong, while she kept her performance about the same. I stayed strong for the rest of the round, and the teacher rescinded my “slacker” title. He even made an example of me to the class, saying that it was obvious I studied overnight and that I was no longer a slacker. *Bigsmile* *Laugh*

So my lesson learned- put in the work even when you don’t think you need to! *Laugh*

Prompt: The Duchess does seem to find a lot of morals in things, so tell us a non-fictional event that left you with a most important moral you’ll never forget.
