Something Is Wrong Here
My hand slid along the doorframe and eased over to find the light switch. Flipping it, Nothing happened.

"That's weird," Frank whispered behind me as I felt my body tremble.

"Something is wrong here," I whispered back.

"I just fixed that fuse before I went out. It shouldn't be blown again."

"I'm not so sure it's the fuse," I whispered, my voice barely audible.

"What's that?" Frank barked out sending the tremors through my body at an alarming speed.
"Can you feel that?" I whispered a tiny bit louder.

"Feels damn cold. The power must be out too. This damn house is more bother than it's worth.'

"I don't think it's anything that simple."

We both stared into the dark room. Straining our eyes into the blackness.

"I don't see...." Frank's voice died as an apparition materialized not two feet in front of us. It seemed to stare at us.

We both held our breath.

Behind me, Frank found his voice and ground out a razor sharp cuss just as the shimmering scepter grinned manically.

When it began to move towards us, I turned tail and fled. Frank followed suit. The echo of laughter followed us through the corridors and out into the night air.

When we were back inside the truck, I started the engine, jammed it into reverse and hit the gas.

"I'll call Callaghan tomorrow and tell him we won't be finishing the renovations. He's on his own."

Word count = 242.
