‘Idál (Justice), 1 Asma (Names), 165 B.E. – Wednesday, August 20, 2008 about 12:36 PM Pacific Daylight Time

Asma got off on a high note. Mom and I went to feast last night. Mom could hear all the readings. We had cake for refreshments. Driving home we saw the full moon low in the sky, huge and beautiful. When we arrived home, Mom went to bed and I stayed up and logged on writing.com to check my e-mail and make sure I got logged in for August 20.

I have come to expect unusual things to happen in my life. I don't exactly expect difficulties, what I expect is Murphy's Law to kick in; when Murphy's Law kicks in it normally kicks me in the teeth. This doesn't explain why I have a freezer full of meat nor why Asma has gotten off on a high note.

My brother called today. He and his wife are moving back to Colorad0. They cleaned out their fridge and freeze. They brought us all the meat, chicken, beef, fist, etc. that they had in the freezer and give it to us to eat. In addition, he brought two boxes of nonperishable foods.

I already had a shelf full of rice and beans. Now I have meat to go with the rice and beans. I haven't did an inventory yet, but I think the only things I'm going to have to buy are peanut butter, bread and jelly. This is good because as near as I can figure our finances for the next couple of months almost all the money coming in is going to go to pay bills.

I already had three tubs of margarine, one large and two small. I have two loaves of bread, so I can have toast in the morning with eggs, if I decide to use the eggs to eat with the sausages that came with the meat today.

Fidál (Grace), 19 Kamal (Perfection), 165 B.E. – Tuesday, August 19, 2008 about 6:34 AM PDT

OK, Tuesday, August 19, has started out as a good day. I got up at 3:00 AM, after deciding that I really did not want to say in bed. I considered it, but there was not going back to sleep and lying in bed when I cannot sleep, just makes me tired. There is no use me being tired and sleepless in Las Vegas.

I have written two science fiction poems this morning, which I will submit to an online science fiction contest on August 20. The deadline for the contest is August 31, so I can let the poems lie before submitting them. This will give me a chance to think up some better titles. The working titles I give them fit the poems; however, they do not strike a chord with my muses. I think there may be better titles.

I found out about the contest yesterday, so two poems about the theme of energy in that short a time is good. I believe I can submit three separate poems, at least that is what I remember reading when I checked the website last night. The URL is http://www.sfpoetry.com/2008poetrysubs.php. I have to come up with another energy poem if I am going to submit three.

I do not think I have any other energy poems written. Therefore, I am going to have to find the inspiration for another one. The inspiration for the two I have already written was a game I played or watched my brother's play, as a child and coffee. Coffee and chocolate inspire a lot o my poems. Maybe a chocolate poem about energy would be good, I will have to think about that.

It is monsoon season. There are clouds, we have humidity, but no rain. Monsoon season without rain is like a banana split without bananas. I miss the rain, I miss sitting in my living room watching the rain. I miss gripping when driving in the rain because I cannot roll my window up.

This is August when lightning, thunder and rain occur at the same time. I heard it thunder once, but saw no lightning. It rained but just enough to rearrange the dirt on my car. I want a real rain. The type of rain the fills the streets because the drainage is clogged with trash. The type of rain the weather person reminds people not to drive through standing water (not that anybody listens).

I know I live in a desert where it does not rain most of the year. However, it is suppose to rain in monsoon season. That is why it is called monsoon season. Rain is expected this time of year and welcomed. True everyone grips about the rain and the drainage, but that does not mean the rain is not welcomed or expected.

This is an election year, drought or no drought, you would think mother nature would be pissed off at the politicians and rain on them. However, apparently none of the politicians have pissed her off enough.

A little rain to alleviate the humidity would be nice. It would also get rid of the heat rash I have.

I like summer rain
the cool wet drops on my skin
baptizes my soul.

I like winter rain
transformed into white snowflakes
dancing to the ground.

I like autumn rain
falling to the new plowed ground
making mud puddles.

I like spring's sweet rain
cold on my naked body
washing away fear.

Blog action day is October 15, 2008. On that day over 1.901 sites worldwide will be read by more then 3,968,913 people. The theme this year is poverty, every blog register will contain an entry on this subject. I am not sure just yet what I am going to write.

The first thing I need to do is register both my off site blogs at http://blogactionday.org/. Once that is done then I can start brain storming my entries. One of my off site blogs has a writing theme, while the other concerns transformation and spirituality.

I have over a month to figure out what approach I am going to take. Maybe I am over thinking this whole thing. The best approach is usually the simplest. I can do some research between now and October 15. I might come up with something interesting, even a unique approach.

I have never did a survey on either blog. Maybe a survey of some type would be a good approach. I will have to brainstorm some questions between now and then. See what I come up with, maybe do a survey on one and a poem or story on another. I could also write a slice of life piece.

I think I am just too tired to think right now, so maybe I should put off deciding what to write about for a couple of days. All though, I just thought of an interesting approach. What would an alien from a planet where poverty did not exist think about poverty on earth?

I'm less irritable. I haven't been on the verge of tears once today. When my Internet connections cuts out on me, I just reconnect without getting upset. When explorer doesn't want to connect to a website because it doesn't like me tab browsing, I don't curse it or get angry. When my keyboard misses a letter I simply go back and add the letter. All in all, I'm a much pleasanter person today.

I'm not sure of the reason. It could be my meds. It could be I've been getting more rest. It could be I'm concentrating more on the prayers when I say or read them. It could be any one of a dozen reason. Whatever it is I hope it continues.

I know I'm less worried about finances. I also have German chocolate brownies and a new brand of coffee. The coffee is a breakfast blend and it's a little stronger then my regular brand. It tastes wonderful. In addition, I had eggs today and I haven't eaten an egg in two or three months. I had an egg sandwich with cranberry relish. I also have some frozen veggies I'm eating.

I did do one thing this afternoon that I normally don't do. I laid down in bed and took a nap. Normally I take a nap in the afternoon, but I don't lay down in bed to do it; instead sit on the couch or love seat and doze, but I don't actually lay down in a bed to take a nap. Maybe I'll try taking my afternoon nap in bed for the next few days.

I think it's been a productive day, but I'm not sure how much I achieved. I know that doesn't make sense so let me explain. I carried the trash and recyclables out to the garage. I took a box of shredded mail to the garage and will take it to the curb if tomorrow Saturday, August 16 is when they pick up the recyclables. I don't think they picked up recyclables last Saturday, but that was long seven days ago.

Today I received Personal Planning Guide a book with templates in it for personal information. It helps me plan my funeral, no I am not at death's door. At least I don't think I am, I'm just being practical. Death is a part of life and don't want to leave the planning of the final Celebration of my Life up to family and friends. Funerals are stressful and, I know from experience (I helped plan my grandparents' funerals), that you always wonder if you did it the way the person wanted it done. If I leave instruction, then there will be a little less stress for my family. I am going to start entering information in the templates tonight.

So what else has occurred today. I received a check through the mail, which I will deposit tomorrow after the bank opens. I went to Catholic Charities and picked up my senior food allotment. Next time I go I'm going to have to take a piece of mail with my name on it. I think I'll start keeping the power bill in my purse, that way when I need to prove where I live I'll have it.

I am finally awake and functioning, which is an achievement since I spent all day yesterday working the Primary Election. I went to work at 6:00 AM Pacific time and got home about 7:30 PM. The entir day I remained at my assigned station processing voters.

When I arrived home last night I was extremely tired so I went straight to bed. For once I went to sleep the minute my head hit the pillow; this is unusual for me since I normally lay awake. I can usually sleep sitting up just fine, but sleeping in bed is another story.

As a result of going to be early, I got up early. I was not fully functioning, but I got up early any way. Once I wake up, it does not matter how tired I am, there is no use lying in bed because it jus makes me more weary.

I got up, said some prayers, took my thyroid medication, made coffee, transcribed the writing I did yesterday into the journals, made some blog entries and had several cups of coffee. I am now awake and able to function on a more or less noral basis.

After transcribing all the words I wrote yesterday, I found out I exceeded my minimum word count goal by 69 words. This is a milestone for me because when I work the Primary or General election, I do not make my goal. I figured out what I have been doing wrong and have corrected it. When I work the polls I need to write, at least, half the word count goal before going to my station. Since I follow a solar day, this is not difficult, if I apply myself and do half of the writing after sunset on the evening before going to my election station the next day.

I think I've found a way to beat insomnia, it's call writing. I have to be to work tomorrow at 6:00 AM and I won't get home until around 7:30 PM (if I'm lucky). I work the election polls tomorrow, which means I can't leave until after the polls close. I have my lunch pack and everything ready to go. In the morning all I have to do is take a bath, get dressed, make some coffee (not necessarily in that order), and leave the house.

The problem is I can't sleep. I think I know the reason. I have set a goal to write, at least, 2,500 words between sunset of one day and sunset of the next. The problem is tomorrow (Tuesday) I won't get home until after sunset. That means I may not achieve the goal. I think that's the reason I can't sleep.

Therefore, I decided to get up and make some blog entries. My offline journal entries I can compose while I'm working the polls. I only have two offline journals. There is my gratitude journal and Writing my Spiritual Journey. I can compose those entries while I'm waiting for people to vote. However, since I won't have access to a computer, I can't make my blog entries then.

The entries for Writing my Spiritual Journey and the Gratitude journal aren't difficult because I write letters. I have given my gratitude journal a name and address it as Dear Glory. The letters in Writing my Spiritual Journey are address to Baha'u'llah.

I think writing is working because I'm starting to get sleepy. I am going to spell check this entry and then post it.

It's a presidential election year in the U.S. and I haven't written one poem to commemorate the event. Normally I write at least one political style poem, but this year nothing. I haven't watched as much T.V. this year as I have in other election years, so that may be the cause.

I don't get all that involved in politics. I'm registered nonpartisan. I work the polls on primary and general election days. I write a political poem and read it at an open mic reading. That's the extent of my involvement in politics.

I have watched a little T.V. and seen a few of the political commercials. They don't seem as bad with the mud slinging this year as in some years. That, however, could be the result of the drought we're going through.
There just isn't that much mud to sling
because there is no rain.

Since I'm nonpartisan, I don't have to worry about who's running on which ticket. In the general election, I'll be a little more observant. I'll have to think hard about who I'm actually going to vote for then. I think I know already who I'm going to vote for, but it's a close to three months tell November. That gives all the candidates plenty of time to do something stupid and cause me to change my mind.

We're in a drought
so the candidates can't sling mud
without being accused of wasting water.

That may be the only political poem I write this year. I'll have to work on the idea a little bit longer to see if I can make something more of it. Maybe I should try a form poem for this. Form poems always help me when I can't find an approach to a subject.

I know I read Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs by the brothers Grimm. However, until today I didn't know that it was Walt Disney and not the Grimms that named the Seven Dwarfs. The only character in the story named by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm was Snow White herself. She got her name because her skin was snow white, her lips were blood red, and her hair was the color of ebony.

Disney called them (1) Dopey, (2) Grumpy, (3) Doc, (4) Happy, (5) Bashful, (6) Sneezy, and (5) Sleepy. Disney also adapted the fairy tale to a modern and perhaps more romantic audience. In the original story, the Prince did not kiss Snow White to wake her up. What happened was that the Prince talked the dwarfs out of Snow White's see through coffin. As his servants were carrying it back to his castle, one of them stumbled over a tree root and they dropped the coffin. As a result, the piece of poison apple lodged in Snow White's throat came out and she woke up.

In the original story, the Prince married Snow White. In addition, Snow White's stepmother was forced to put on hot iron shoes and dance (at Snow White's wedding). The stepmother danced until she died. Everything I remember about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs came from the Disney film version of the story.

I think I am going to have to reread all of the stories by the brothers Grimm. There is no telling what I will find that I have forgotten about those stories.

I have a magnifying glass. It isn't a glass rather it's a credit card sized piece of plastic that magnifies the words. I got it when I visited the Senior Law Project, this group gives them away free to senior citizens. Yes, I am admitting I am a senior citizen. I am also admitting that I am elderly or on my way to being elderly.

Any way the glass or plastic helps me read while still wearing my glasses and that is wonderful. I'm eventually going to have to have my the prescription for my glasses changed, but in th mean time the magnifier will do. At this point, I'm focused on having all my teeth pulled and a complete set of dentures put in my mouth.

It rained a little bit today, not much mind you, but rained and thundered, too. It rained enough to leave puddles in my driveway and make the blacktop of Bracken Ave. glisten.

When I heard the thunder, I turned off the computer even though I did not see any lightening. Turning off the computer was a safety measure. I have no idea what the odds are of lightening striking near by and knocking the computer out.

I turned the computer off, which is something I would not have done before I turned 60. Since I became a sexagenarian, I gotten a bit cautious in certain areas. Not in all areas, of course, I still want to ride every roller coaster on Earth and if there were roller coasters on the Moon or Mars, I would want to ride those as well.

I am cautious when it comes to electricity and electrical items. I will use the phone during a thunderstorm. Grandma Newland would never use the phone during a storm. Grandma would turn the T.V. off and never use the record player during a storm. She did allow the radio and the lights on during a storm, but no other piece of electrical equipment was used.

Another thing Grandma never let us use was metal objects. During a thunderstorm we could not cut out paper dolls, if we already had them cut out we could play with them. The only other things to do during a storm was read or watch the storm. I would sit on the couch in Grandma's living room, with a book in my hand, staring out the window at the storm.

I enjoyed watching the lightening and listening to the thunder. Perhaps that is why when I hear thunder. I sit in the living room staring out the window. I did not see any lightning today, but when it thunders there is lightening. It is during thunderstorms that I miss Oklahoma the most.

Alley Oop and Dinny are 75 years old. I remember this comic strip from my childhood. It was one of those, which my father read to me. When I grew a little older I read it myself.

I know that a cave man riding a dinosaur was not historically correct (at least I do now). However, that was never a concern when Dad read Alley Oop to me. I enjoy the caveman's adventures on his pet dinosaur. A little bit of fantasy, even if it is historically inaccurate, does not hurt. Fantasy gets a child's imagination going.

I even remember hearing a song about Alley Oop. All I remember only a couple of phrases from the song. I remember "Alley Oop, Oop, Oop" and "caveman". I do remember enjoying the song at the time, but that is about all.

It's been an exciting week and it's not even over yet. Yesterday the dentist gave me a prescription for pain medication and said I should take on of the pills before I went to bed. Therefore, I got the prescription filled (it cost a little over $13.00), did the other stuff I'd planned to do and came home.

I have never take prescription pain medication before, but I took a pill before I went to bed as the dentist instructed. I slept fine, the pills apparently worked because I didn't have any pain in bed. I doubt that I take another one, because I don't have any pain this morning.

It isn't that I've never taken pain pills before, but normally stick with the over the counter type. This is the first time I've taken a prescription for pain, it was an interesting sensation. I'm going to have more teeth pulled so I'm only going to take the other 14 pills if I need to for pain in the area of the extraction, but that doesn't hurt right now.

The dentist pulled two teeth from my upper jaw today. I have an appointment on August 29 to have more teeth extracted. I am still looking forward to the process. I felt no pain while the teeth were being pulled, now there is a slight pain.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the least painful and 10 the worst; the pain is a 1 or perhaps a 1 1/2. I have a perscription for pain pills, the dentist said to take 1 pill before I went to bed tonight, so that is what I will do.

The gum is not bleeding now, it did bleed a little bit right after the teeth came out. However, the bleeding did not last very long. I am supposed to eat soft foods tonight, so I did not put hot peppers on my ham and cheese sandwich. I ate the sandwich as I normally eat it, with the exception of being careful on which side of my mouth I chewed the food.

Enjoying going to the dentist is a completely new experience for me. I have never enjoyed going to a dentist before.

For the first time in my life, I'm looking forward to going to a dentist. Today the doctor is going to take impressions for a full set of dentures. I also think (or at least hope) is is going to pull some of my teeth.

Every since I went to him, last month, my teeth has been bothering me more then usual. It could be that before, I saw him the first time, I had no hope of every having my teeth fixed, so I just ignored the pain and difficulty they caused. Now that I have some hope they are eventually going to come out, I'm less tolerant of the dental problems.

I'm planning on making another entry this afternoon concerning the visit. However, that depends on how I feel when I get back home. Now I'm going to go eat some of the fruit out of the fridge, take a nap and get ready to go to the dentist.

I have a full day planned. This afternoon Mom's got a dental appointment, she is going to get her teeth cleaned and new dentures. I have to pick up some food across town this afternoon after she gets out or while she is in the office. I have to get coffee and gas.

This morning I have to make sure all the trash is taken to the garage, so I can take the trashcans to the curb either tonight or in the morning. I will probably take them out tonight because I do not think I will want to do it in the morning.

At 12:00 midnight, I have a party on writing.com to attend. Midnight writing.com time is 9:00 PM Pacific Time. So I need to take a nap today sometime. I think I will take it this morning. Then take the trash to the garage if I have to. I don't want to miss the party.

I have not been sleeping well at night or in the day time. A little nap of a morning or afternoon helps. I go through phases like this every now and then. My sleep is destrubed by something, but I have no idea what. Maybe I need to change my routine. If that is the case then a nap this morning will do it. I just do not want to get in the habit. I go back to work on August 25 and will be unable to take a morning nap then.

I am too tired to write any more this morning, so I will post this and take my nap.
