In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.

I will not review...
something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about more than one friend of mine who faced the end so bravely. Hospitals are such ghastly places for spirits as strong and wonderful that have to face things there.

Sometimes friendship is mostly about just being there.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* This part stays with me:

"Instead we talked as a normal day
Of sports, of kids and elections, wise
In combination over one hundred years,
With catchall solutions uncontested
By those not there to see our eyes."

My friend and I talked about the Yankees and the Mets that year. We talked about everything besides what was happening. That is a good memory, mixed with what followed though.

I thought this was brilliant and beautiful. Can't ask for better than that.

*Cool**Idea* I would pick Queen Elizabeth also. I loved your question. I bet she would say in the old times would be better.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

She has been queen longer than I have been alive. I don't remember a time when she wasn't the Queen of England. I hope that they skip over Charles. She's had an interesting life - that Netflix show, The Crown about her is really good. She's seen some things and met all the great leaders of the world.

What an interesting lady she is! Nice work with this!

I clicked on the Read and Review option and it took me to your poetic tribute to a wonderful sister.

There is a lot of love expressed both ways in this poem. It is key that she is always happy for your achievements and you hers. I don't see any sign of the jealousy that sometimes rises up between siblings.

It sounds like you are best friends to each other. This was my favorite passage:

"She's witty and funny, she's honest and true,
so patient and loving... encouraging, too!"

We should all be so lucky as to have a sibling who is also a true friend!

Very inspiring and written from the heart, which to me is he best poetry there is.

I clicked on the Read and Review option and was taken to your wonderful poem about what the human heart can do.

No matter what obstacles lay in the path of true love, the heart wants what the heart wants. It is easy to ignore flaws at the beginning - it is putting in the work to make things right over time that is the challenge.

This ending was my favorite part:

"Not all the heroes in the world are tested to this length
yet all have much in common – a heart that filled with strength.
An ancient curse holds power that time alone cannot abate,
yet it pales before the strength of love in overcoming hate. "

You never know when a hero will emerge, sometimes it is from an unlikely source.

Very thoughtful poem, with engaging rhyme. Your story is told very well here.

Nice work, as always! The title fits perfectly, also!

These are all good contests. There are a lot of good ones around. I think it is a good way to learn. I do better in poem contests than story ones.

My favorite ones are those where I actually think that the judges and hosts enjoy reading the entries. That is a really nice thing when that happens. It is so encouraging.

It is great to share information about things and this prompt is good for helping you do that.

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it brought me to your well written story about a group of sister/queens who control the universe. You launch right in with a vivid and memorable description of your setting.

Earth is the problem that is being discussed among leaders with different goals and personalities. Some are definitely more tolerant and kind-hearted than others. It is chilling to read the observations that are based on how things undoubtedly are, or would appear to those looking in from afar.

I noticed this sentence about halfway through:

"It's only a matter of time before they reach out, your creatures are far to trusting to life outside their own planet."

The word "to" before "trusting" should be "too" in this context. It's a minor typo that is easily fixed and not something that impacts on the writing as a whole.

The last part, the conclusion here, was scary and at the same time amusing. It is always a shock to assume that we here are not in charge. It makes you wonder about what put this together in the first place and you offer an interesting theory and ultimate remedies to the problems presented by earth as we know it.

Very frightening and provocative! Well done!

*Cool**Idea* I thought about how Bob is suspicious about a lot of things. The first person narration lets us in on how Bob thinks. It never dawns on him what is happening, as it slowly dawns on the reader. That would be too horrible for him to contemplate, wouldn't it?

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I sure Bob's reluctance about cooked beef products. George is not considerate, but is about to make amends. Well, that's what Bob thinks.

I like how you build up the suspense for the reader without spelling out what is about to happen.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* The protagonist narrator, Davena Rabowski, is her own worst enemy. That is what I thought at first - that she had died and that this is a review of her life in photographs.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* It seems that it is much more than a death, that Davena's mind has been tapped in to and she is forced to see the truth about her life, her friends and her own belief system.

I felt that as I read and then at the end, I am back to thinking this is a state beyond life. It is knowing what we were about that hurts us the most. Davena's photos are just the beginning of learning what her flaws are and how much she pushes away those who might really be her friends, in favor of those who share her hatred.

I liked how she kept coming back to Walgreens, as it seemed like a sort of mecca or maybe even a stopping off place on the way to purgatory.

I liked the twists and turns and not knowing what to believe. It seems like that is the case for Davena, all the way through. She does not know who to trust or what to believe. Life can be like that at times, regardless of our belief systems I reckon.

Very interesting story. I am not sure, in the end, that I totally get it, but some of it seemed like a dream and some seemed like what the afterlife might hold in store. In the end, I wondered, like Davena did I think - about what might be real and what is a look into her prejudices and unique mindset.

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it took me to your suspenseful story.

I was suspicious of Jack and then there was a curve that I didn't see coming. In the end, I am not sure who is meant to be the "victim" in the title. Maybe it is Tina and maybe it is the one who does the deed.

I didn't see it coming - I relaxed when she relaxed. But then the ultimate revenge may be still in the offing. This had me on the edge of my pasture, as things progressed.

Mostly, I just review items that I enjoy reading and that was certainly the case here.

Very engaging and ultimately satisfying story. I liked the ending, even though it took a twist I wasn't expecting.

*Cool**Idea* The title makes me think that the conclusion that one comes to is negative.

But we all have these questions, at times, about decisions we make. I have run into people who insist that they are always "right" and "blameless" about everything. That is self delusion there, we all are flawed, it's part of the human condition.

So, looking back on the life led can be hard, but we need to focus on the whole picture and not just the problems and obstacles.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I especially like those first two lines, combined with the last two lines of the poem and what you say about "time." We all have the tendency to be our worst critics and that brings that home.

I think that time plays tricks on all of us and time is the true sham, not the person.

*Cool**Idea* I think your poem goes very well with the photograph. We all try our best to fit in. The masks will never fit in, but they can have their own integrity in the garden and otherwise. That is how I read this - to stick to what you know is right and you will have your own identity.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup*This part stays with me:

"The white masks beautifully lay horizontal in the garden of red flowers
As they lay there it reminds me of the masks of my life,"

We all wear those masks, but we all don't recognize their significance and how we have to find our own way in order to fit in. It made me wonder who the friends were and if they really are "friends".

I like this very much and how it fits with the photograph. I read it as turning in a positive direction where strength and inspiration can be found inside.

*Cool**Idea*Satan runs an organization that makes amazon look tiny. All he needs is the right thinking, persuasive speech and a marketing strategy.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I think having the media onboard is key, but that happened a long time ago. This is chilling and I think it is how groups (like the Nazis) rationalize the horrors they perpetrate on humanity.

But is there humanity remaining is the question. The humor in this is witty satire, but it is a chilling prospect to consider. Would we buy into this the way that the world has so quickly bought into having the latest I-phone and slavishly following likes and such on the Internet?

This definitely made me stop and think in a scaredy cat sort of way.

This is why I avoid (at the most basic level) groups who profess to pick and choose the cream of their crop. I try to, but am not always good at spotting the devil when I see it.

I thought this was cleverly constructed and very well written. It explains a lot about how people get sucked into cults.

*Cool**Idea* I think that this is written with a lot of creativity and imagination whether one considers your confess age or not. It is very impressive for such a young person to have such vision and such a clear poetic voice.

Many older writers do not have this much insight into life, either.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite passage as it led me to believe that the birds are guiding you (the speaker, "you") in your journey:

"There was a great hawk,
Soaring above me, taking hold
Of my eyes, making sure
They didn't stray."

We all would be better off if we stopped, looked and learned from the ones around us who fly naturally.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought that the Prince deserved more time, practice and another chance.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* The prince does fine when he's writing about her. When he's writing about himself, he stumbles. But this is a bit of a lesson to follow one's heart.

I think if the prince was encouraged instead of getting a big expert smack-down from the powers that roam the halls, he might just have the courage to follow his heart and his writing dreams.

But if there is a review smack-down (calling itself honest when it's more aptly labeled, "Mean") then the prince might never get to live up to his full potential as the "Poet Prince."

I am probably reading too much into it, but the story hit home with me. I have had my share of smackdowns that kept me down for a while. Always get back up because that is what defeats the bullies and "so-called" experts.

I wasn't sure if, at the end, "closet" should be "closest". We never know who are friends are, until they aren't when it comes to the Internet. A good lesson is to be kind and open to all and then it won't be a problem.

I enjoyed this very much!

*Cool**Idea* I like how you go through the different theories and how things came to be. Of course, it makes the lake more interesting and inviting to have a story. What body of water does not benefit from storytelling? I can't really think of one.

A Lovely Signature Designed For Me



I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it took me to your fine haiku.

It's about as cold a winter as I remember right now, so anything that paints summer or spring for me is a welcome diversion.

This brought to mind a summer in the late 1970's when the cicadas were out for their 17 year visit. They have never screamed since the way they did that summer and there was awesome music to go with it on the radio.

This brought back some super memories in that last line. I think it was either 77 or 79. The song "American Woman" played a lot during that summer. I never guessed at that time that I would end up with my husband being friends with the guy who wrote that song. Thanks for transporting me back in time!

I like that Fishin' Jim never gives up and also that the fact that Elvira is pretty is not a guarantee of happiness.

Mike is right. A snake is a snake.

I would suggest putting this in the "Comedy" genre is my only suggestion.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Life on the train holds a lot of knowledge and types of people to watch. It is a never ending show if one has the courage to brave the masses. It was a fascinating view for me as I have not been on a subway in many years.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I was struck by this insight:

"It is the microcosm of high school all over again and I’m the weird kid that writes poetry in the corner and shoots death glares at anyone who looks my way."

That (a good offense) is a good way to survive a lot of things in life that are challenging.

I loved this and I felt like a ghost rider on that train with your narrator/you.

A Lovely Signature Designed For Me

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it brought me to your fine Dear Me, letter.

I am chuckling at and liking the admonition that if you are reading, you aren't writing. That is a very clever theme that is repeated throughout this well written letter.

I noticed in about the 6th line up from your signature, you have a "t" on the end of the word, "finish" where it doesn't belong. This is just a small, easily fixed typo and does not detract from the spirit and thrust of the writing.

A Lovely Signature Designed For Me

I clicked on the Read and Review option and was transported to your fine haiku. The weather has been so changeable this past year that sometimes it seemed like spring was here for a time, then back into the deep freeze.

Your eloquent words bring that home to me. Melancholy is the perfect title, also. I hope that we will finally have a lasting thaw one of these days.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about Alice. At first I was totally in her corner, but there are some twists and turns. It seems like it turned out about right.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

In the end, I was struck by the delicious irony of the title. It really was a place that Alice made her home. I like how the cat figured in, also and how caring for the cat was impetus for what needed to be done.

I thought your story was very well written, suspenseful and imaginative!

*Cow* I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it brought me to your fine poem about my favorite season. It was much too short this year as we hurried into winter in early December where I reside.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about how things change and how they look and the days get shorter. You have captured enough to evoke memories of the sights, sounds and the overall feeling of the season.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite passage:

"over a bespeckled terrain
caressed and warmed by shifting quilts
designated by solemn, bowing branches."

Quilts and blankets are evocative and very effective imagery. I use them all through the autumn and the winter so that definitely struck a chord with me as a reader.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* The world sometimes is relentless in trying to draw spirits in. The more we resist, the more things are done.

I had a clique come after me. They still try periodically, but fatigue has set in here. When anger or whatever gets us motivated is replaced by fatigue, it is easy to resist. We just yawn, at that point, and look away. This week one of the clique pulled my tail with something. It was like swatting away a fly and then turning to face another direction. Inconsequential after a while.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part was my favorite:

"It sought to draw him in.
He resisted valiantly,
But the world wouldn’t be denied."

When you stop caring about the world, it doesn't matter how it feels about being denied. That's where I come out, anyway.

Very thought-provoking and well written poem. Nice work, Zeke.

*Cool**Idea* This is a roller coaster of emotions from sad and longing, to happy and fulfilled, back down to loss and then a positive finish.

I was relieved at the smile at the end setting free his worries - that was how I take it anyway. I would be afraid to think otherwise.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

We never know where life will take us, do we? It is a mystery, but we have faith and trust in that faith and maybe things go our way more than not.

Faith holds the answer to the question in the title.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I enjoyed reading your take on the prompt.

I noticed one thing to mention - in the last sentence of the first paragraph you repeat the word "all" and the phrase "all in the" a couple of times. That is just a small thing that is easily fixed.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I like how you have them go away to reconvene another day. In light of the happenings in the story, that seems like a good and logical solution. I wondered who was the source for the laugh, a mystery for another day no doubt.

Nice work with the Writer's Cramp prompt! Well done!
