This party was supposed to finally break the curse. This one event would finally bring an end to all of the forgetful Valentine's days of the past. How could this go wrong? Every girl was allowed to invite as many boys as they wanted! The scales would finally be tipping in my favor! With three boys for every girl, someone was bound to ask me to dance! I might have even ended up with a date! Who knows what would have happened if the boys I had invited shown up? Two of them were hottie twin brothers! That could have been really interesting!

I should have seen it coming. Every seemingly fail-safe plan has a fatal flaw. My flaw was Murphy. To be honest, I had invited him to the party. I had just never thought that he would actually show up! Why would a boy who doesn't like to dance come to a party where that was to be the main activity? He wouldn't, or at least he hadn't planned to until I called that afternoon. See, it was all my fault. I called Murphy and told him not to come. I was mad at him for some minor infraction and was dying to play the time honored female game of "Guess what you did wrong." I should have known that by telling him not to come, I was essentially guaranteeing that he would make an appearance!

When Murphy makes an appearance, everyone notices. They notice not because he has the chiseled good looks of a God, but because he has the social graces of a hermit and the wardrobe of a Hawaiian in Paris. What's worse is that I was dancing with a real babe when his arrival was announced. One of the girls leaned over and whispered in my ear, "He's heeerrrreee." I looked towards the door expecting to see a face from my dreams. Instead I saw a beret. Only one man would be so bold. Murphy. I did the one thing that instinct would allow me to do. I ran. Bolted is more like it. I have never run so fast before or since. Only once I was safely locked in the bathroom did I start to calm down. What was he thinking? Why had he come? I was mad at him! Didn't he know when he wasn't wanted? Maybe he'll just go away. I'm sure that if he doesn't see me, he'll just leave. Otherwise he might have to actually talk to someone! No, I'll just wait here and hopefully I can find the hottie again once I go back down.

"Are you all right in there?" my roommate called through the door. Everyone saw you bolt. I think they've started the music back up, but everyone's really worried. Murphy's sitting downstairs looking really awkward. I told him to wait until I could get you to come back down."

"I am not going back down! Murphy needs to go away! I don't know why he decided to show up in the first place! I told him not to come!"

"Well, now he downstairs and I really don't think he's going to leave until you talk to him. You're going to have to eventually anyway."

"Fine!" I stormed out of the bathroom and glared at my roommate. "You were supposed to be on my side. You should have made him go away. A lot of help you are!" I stomped down the stairs without even pretending to listen to her pleas. I could deal with her later.

I swung open the door to the party and scanned the room. People turned and looked at me like I was foaming at the mouth, and I just glared back. Then I saw him. He was frozen with horror, eyes wide and mouth agape. I marched past the crowd, grabbed him by the arm and dragged him into the parking lot. I think I heard someone whisper "Dead man walking" as we passed. They had no idea.

I did not even wait until we were out of earshot before I lit into him! For a good thirty minutes I screamed about every little injustice he had ever made me suffer. Then I was done. Not mad anymore,just done. Murphy was still cowering when I finally quit. He dared to peek out from behind his hands to sheepishly mutter, "I'm sorry?"

"Okay then." I said. "Wanna get some ice cream?"
