What is Writing.Com

You've heard it before, and I'll say it again: Welcome to Writing.Com

So, what IS Writing.Com? And what do you expect to get out of becoming a member? You should expect some tangible benefits from your membership. I'll cover those in a moment. But first, why even ask the question? You know why you joined, and even what you expected to realize from your membership.

Every day I see queries in the various forums--"Writing.Com General DiscussionOpen in new Window., "Noticing NewbiesOpen in new Window., "Technical Support ForumOpen in new Window., and "Non-Technical Support ForumOpen in new Window.--on this very subject.

Writing.Com is first and foremost a unique community emphasizing the peer-to-peer relationship between writers. Networking with, obtaining feedback from, and reviewing other writers' works has been instrumental in the growth of many members over the past 15 years. Whether you aspire to become published or just want a safe to write and store your work, Writing.Com has grown to be the largest and leading online writing site today.

WDC is not a publishing site. We cannot publish your stories or poems. Your work rests within your portfolio as you edit, fine-tune and polish it until you deem it suitable to pursue publication in a variety of venues. While WDC will not actually publish your work, members can help to that end. Many members are already published authors who have discovered a path toward publication that worked for them. Often those members are willing to share their journey with other members.

Generally, if you restrict access to your work on WDC to only members, or specifically to any group you use to help you polish your offerings, many publishers will not consider that work as being published online. However, always check the submission guidelines for any agency you wish to submit your work. Most publishers have websites at which you can verify their guidelines.

Many groups exist in specific genres from which you can get feedback on your offerings that will help you improve your writing skills. Use the Search box located under the WDC logo in the upper left corner to find those groups. For instance, you wish to find a group emphasizing comedy. Select the button for All of Writing.Com, select Comedy under the Genre menu, Groups under the Reading menu, and click on the magnifying glass. Contact the group owner to be sure that group is still active and for information on how to join.

Writing.Com is a member-driven organization in that we make the site viable. Becoming a paid member provides funds for The ScaryMaster Author Icon and The StoryWitchress Author Icon to continue developing new features to enhance our writing journey. More than a few features have come from member suggestions. The many hundreds of thousands of free members are vital as well by supporting other members, making suggestions, and referring WDC to others. We all work together.

Thank you for joining and making Writing.Com the premier online writing site.

And from the mailbox about my last Noticing Newbies newsletter, "Become an AngelOpen in new Window..

From Thaddeus Buxton Winthrop Author Icon: Thank you Jace! Instead of being a rogue reviewer, I believe you've made up my mind to join Simply Positive Group. Sherri was such a good influence; too bad it takes something this drastic to get me to commit for once. I wanted to share this elegy for Sherri. I'll leave it to you if you want to share. Thanks for being an Angel in your words describing Sherri Gibson. Peace, Frank

Thanks, Frank. And congrats on pursuing your reviewing. Joining Simply Positive really enhanced my writing shills.

From Sally Author Icon: What a beautiful tribute to Sherri Gibson. Your newsletter this week was a perfect match of guidance and remembrance to a dear passed member. You merged the two so well. Sally

Thanks, Miss Sally. *Delight*

From remusmdh Author Icon: Regardless of your intentions, since I do not know them for one, that newsletter was a wonderful eulogy to an online friend. One of the few NL that has touched me on any kind of emotional level. Thank you.

I appreciate your sentiment.

From Sewcrazy Again 🤗 Author Icon: Hello, My question is if I post a manuscript draft to be edited here publically. Can I still publish it on my own or to an agent or publisher?

I hope I answered your question above. Best of luck on your publication journey.
