Just before Matt’s strength gave out, Leo stopped pushed and let out a loud laugh.
“It’s a joke, Matt,” he said and laughed again. “All the bigger guys do it to the littler guys. I’m not the biggest guy around here, not even close, and I get it all the time, and since you’re littler than me, I’m pushing you. Don’t worry,” he went on, noting the disbelief on Matt’s face, “I would have stopped before you got hurt. Let’s go ask Ms. Peach what dorm you’re in, and I’ll show you where to go. I’ll even carry one of your bags,” he added, trying to assuage Matt.
“Ms. Peach,” he asked when he got to the counter. “This is Matt, a new guy, what dorm is he in?”
“Matthew Butterworth?” said Ms. Peach, looking up from her desk. She looked large and formidable, but her voice was kind. “Welcome to the Obesity School for Boys. I’ll just ring the Principal, he’ll want to welcome you. Leo, you can go now, Matthew has to fill out some forms.”
“It’s ok Ms. Peach, I want to help him find his dorm room.”
“Ok, have a seat then. No sense standing up. Ah, here’s Mr. Walters now.”
“Welcome, Matt. I have the forms your parents sent, but we just have some other things we’ll need to do first. We need a photo for your ID card, and then we need to have the school nurse see you. I also need to measure you for your uniform.”
“Dad sent me with a uniform.”
“Well, that’s good, but you’ll soon need a bigger one. We’ll start with the measuring. Hold up your arms....49 inches over the chest. And.... 50 inches round the gut. And the waist...44 inches. If you find your uniform is ever tight, or doesn’t fit right, come and see me. As long as you don’t do like Leo here, and spill tomato ketchup on everything, we’ll change your uniform as often as needed.”
Ms. Peach pulled out a camera, and she and Mr. Walters filled out other papers for Matt, finally giving him his ID card. “What do you weigh, Matt?” Ms. Peach asked, motioning to an electronic scale in the corner of the office. “Step on that scale and we’ll see.” The large red display on the wall flashed ‘264'. “Excellent,” said Ms. Peach. “I like to see a healthy boy. Feel free to come in anytime to check your weight, dear.”
“Well, Matt, it’s almost time for lunch,” said Mr. Walters. “You can either take your bags up to your dorm room with Leo now, and then come down for lunch, or leave your bags here, and Leo will show you where the cafeteria is. Introduce him around, Leo.” Mr. Walters added.
