Chapter #11

Something isn't right...

    by: Morphology Author IconMail Icon
Sitting in the back seat was embarrassing for Josh. He certainly wasn't used to it for the past decade. As soon as he turned 9, he remembered jumping for joy, knowing that he didn't have to worry about his friends seeing him in the back seat and he would be able to look important, but now that seemed all a dream. Watching the cars pass by the window as snow started to melt as soon as it hit the warm window, he wished he was in one of those other cars and not in this predicament. Lynn seemed to have a lead foot when she drove and Josh noticed that she liked to go over the speed limit by a significant amount. Humming along with a pop song on the radio, Lynn soon came to one of the many roundabouts that were in their city. Seeing the yellow triangle looking sign, Josh didn't know what it meant. Feeling his heart racing, took a deep breath. "Mommy, what does that yellow triangle sign mean?" Hearing himself say the word 'Mommy' made Josh's heart skip a beat.

Stopping her humming for a minute, she looked to see which sign her 'daughter' was asking about. "Oh, you mean the yield sign? Is that the one you're talking about?"

Nodding his head, Josh quickly followed up with another question. "What does yield mean?" He was mostly asking himself, but Lynn seemed to think it was for her.

"My you're really inquisitive today, aren't you?" She giggled as she came to a stop at a red light. "Well, yield means that the driver has to wait for other drivers to pass before they're able to go."

Josh knew that or well, he used to know that and he needed to let Jenny know. "Mommy, I'm bored can I play on your phone?" He asked, hoping to get the device so that he could let Jenny know, just in case it would help her out.

Not seeing the harm in it since they had about 10-15 minutes before they reached where the meeting was taking place, Lynn quickly dug through her purse and got her phone. Using her face to open it, she quickly gave it to Josh so that he could have some entertainment while she was driving. "Here you go sweetie." She replied handing the device over to Josh.

Knowing this was his chance to let Jenny know what was going on with him, Josh quickly opened the messaging app on the phone and looked for Jenny's name. 'Where is she at?' He thought to himself and soon found it and typed out a quick message before it was too late.

***Back at the house***

Jenn was busy looking through the book in an attempt to find out what had gone wrong. She was certainly thankful that Kira didn't change as much as Josh did, but Jenn was certainly thinking that it might have been easier to fix if she had. However, just as she thought she might have found what she was looking for she would forget where she was. It was almost as if the book itself was trying to keep her from fixing her problem. "I need to take a break." She lamented as she put the book down for a moment and shifted her glasses up so that she would be able to rub her eyes.

"Do you want me to get you anything sweetie?" Kira asked, having long since gotten used to calling her sister by the pet name that Josh had for her.

Shaking her head, Jenn simply brushed it off as nothing. "I'm okay for right now." She felt her phone vibrate right next to her and she picked it up, noticing that it was a text from her Mom, she opened it up to take a look at it.

Jenny this is Kira. I'm starting to forget stuff, I don't remember how to drive. Is it getting badder?

Groaning, Jenn turned to Kira and simply asked her a question. "Uh, what is your name?" She asked trying to gauge whether or not it was happening with her or not.

"What are you talking about?" She chuckled awkwardly.

Making sure to put her at ease, Jenn asked again. "Just humor me for a second. What is your name?"

Taking in a deep breath, Kira confidently answered "______"
