Making sure to put her at ease, Jenn asked again. "Just humor me for a second. What is your name?"
Taking in a deep breath, Kira confidently answered "Josh." Hearing this coming out of her mouth, Kira instinctively corrected herself. "I mean, Kira." But the damage had already been done since Jenn now had renewed fervor to get them back to normal. "Jenn, sweetie." Kira started talking to Jenn. "Umm, how am I supposed to get to Josh's house?"
Jenn hadn't really gotten that far, but knew that she needed a place to stay for the night and that her Mom wasn't going to let her 'boyfriend' stay the night. She looked at the time and back at the book. "Give me about 30 minutes and I will drop you off." Kira nodded and went back looking through Josh's phone to see if he was hiding anything and so she could give him grief about it when they got swapped back.
As she looked through the photos, she found several of Josh and Jenn together, one with them kissing, and one of Josh holding Jenn up to try and dunk a basketball in the college's gym. The last photo seemed to stir a memory. "Uh Jenn sweetie." She showed Jenn the photo on Josh's phone of Josh holding her up to dunk the ball. She nodded her head and Kira continued. "If I remember correctly, you wanted to try and dunk the ball but you failed miserably. So I offered to let you get on my shoulders so that you could reach the rim and ultimately dunk the ball. I think your friend, Emily took the picture on my phone so that I could give it to you framed on Christmas." She stopped since it was all starting to freak her out, not to mention Jenn too.
*** Meanwhile with Josh ***
Lynn and Josh started to pull into the parking lot where the scouts were meeting. Looking out the window, Josh could see that it was at one of the local Methodist churches. Feeling the butterflies in his stomach, he unbuckled his seat belt and opened the door so that he could get out. He remembered wanting to do Boy Scouts when he was younger, but with the recent money issues and his Dad leaving them for the younger co-worker that meant that he wasn't able to do it. 'I guess I can try this out. Its certainly not boy scouts, but who cares.' He thought to himself while closing the door behind him, astounded by the weight the door now had.
Looking at her watch, Lynn gasped at the time. "Come on sweetie." She replied while carefully guiding him towards the door. "If we hurry, we will get there on time." Trying to keep up with Lynn, Josh got tired real quickly since his smaller legs had to move faster to keep up with her.
Panting slightly from the exercise when they finally reached the gym where the meeting was being held. They barely had time to walk through the door when Josh felt the air being knocked out of him. "Kira!" A childish voice cried out next to him. Looking, he saw Lilly smiling radiantly. "I didn't know if you were going to come or not." Letting go, Josh felt that it was easier to breathe. Seeing her face caused his heart to stir, much like he felt at seeing a friend after a long time. "Come on and lets go play with Chloe." She asked while dragging him over to his cousin, who was standing near his aunt.
Lilly's excitement was short lived, however as a grown woman starting to bang on a hand drum to get everyone's attention. "Alright girls." She told the rowdy group of school aged girls with a firm, but commanding voice. "Time to line up so that we can get started."
Josh followed Lilly and lined up behind her hoping that he was in the correct group. "I hope tonight goes by quickly." He whispered to himself. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
