Bruce was flabbergasted. New, foreign sensations washed over her now very different body. She wasn't just a woman now, she was Wonder Woman. When she turned to find her gear, her batsuit had miraculously vanished. In the blink of an eye, she wasn't even in Gotham anymore.
Bruce stood in a colossal hallway, a golden glow permeating throughout the room. The massive pillars and detailed marble flooring coupled with the artifacts and inscriptions in latin led her to believe she was in some sort of Greek palace. From her own research into Diana and the Amazons, she learned they worshipped gods from Greek mythology. She wasn't very religious herself, but this place gave off a celestial aura. If this place was real then maybe there was more to those old stories than she thought.
Footsteps clicked against the flooring. She turned to come face to face with Diana. She seemed different somehow. For one, she was wearing a white version of her armor with a skirt attached. Her hair was an ivory shade, accentuating the gold trim of her outfit.
"Diana?"
Bruce spoke in her new voice.
"What's going on? Why am I you?!"
"Bruce... I know that this is overwhelming for you but you must listen."
She placed a hand on Bruce's bare shoulder.
"Zeus... my father... he wants me by his side. He believes I have earned my place among the gods. But the world still needs a Wonder Woman. The gods convened and chose you out of every mortal to pick up where I left off."
"But why me of all people? Why not an Amazon like Donna, Cassie, or even Artemis?"
"If Donna was older and more experienced, perhaps, but you are wise and disciplined. You have waged a selfless war on crime for years against metahumans in spite of not having any powers of your own. You are the ideal candidate."
Diana spoke matter-of-factly. Part of the decision was her own. She was instructed to choose the person she trusted the most as her successor and Bruce was it. He had saved her life countless times. He was pure of heart.
"Why would they choose a man to be the champion of an all-female nation..?"
She was just trying to wrap her head around all of this.
"I know it's a lot to take in. They believe you have proven yourself capable of battling darkness, having dwelled in it for so long yourself. You are the only mortal they trust my powers to." After all, her abilities were an extension of the gods' will. They were extremely picky about who to choose, so they probably would not have taken Bruce's reaction very well. Which was why a friendly face was the one delivering the news. One does not say no to Zeus."
"What about my life? My family..."
Bruce referred to Alfred and all her young sidekicks.
"Reality will bend to accommodate your old life. You will be Diana Prince, billionaire from Gotham, but by night you are Wonder Woman. Your friends will remember you as having always been Diana. Only you will retain your memories of your past life."
"And if I refuse?"
"You cannot refuse the gods, Bruce."
Bruce looked down for a moment.
"But why do I have to be a woman? Why do I have to be you? Can't I just be myself but with your powers?"
Bruce wasn't too keen on being suddenly given powers against her will, let alone having her body permanently altered to be a female. This whole responsibility was just suddenly thrusted into her lap. Her whole life was being changed and there seemed to be nothing she could do about it. Even with Diana's powers she was powerless in the eyes of the gods.
"The gods see me as their ideal champion and the champion of Themyscira must be a woman. I understand, it is a bit odd, and will prove to be quite the adjustment for you, but they prefer you to maintain my appearance. I know it's unfair and a lot to ask of you, but believe me, I wouldn't trust anyone else with this responsibility."
Diana smiled at her friend wearily. Bruce sighed, realizing there really was no way out of this. No fancy tricks, no gadgets to rappel away, no smoke bombs, all she could do was stand there and accept what was being given to her.
"So what happens now? Now that I'm... Wonder Woman...?"
"Now, I return you to your new world."
Where does Diana send Bruce?
