You could have sworn it wasn't there when you grabbed the paper. You carefully push the button and hear a small click.
Just like one of those murder mystery movies, the bookshelf slowly swings open to reveal a small staircase leading downwards. You stare in shock at the now open doorway. When had this gotten here? You could remember putting the bookshelf in yourself, and there was nothing but a blank wall. You slowly creep up to the doorway and look down into the darkness. Turning on your phone flashlight, you slowly begin to descend the stairs, very curious as to what is down there. It seemed to lead to a basement level room, which was another oddity since you had no basement either
As you reach the bottom, you see a light switch on the wall and flick it on. You're blinded temporarily as the room lights up in an instant. You blink a few times to get used to the light and once your eyes have adjusted, you see a bedroom sized room with a strange machine taking up most of the space. A terminal was stationed directly in the center of the room, while two large metal pod-like objects stood against the back wall. There was a circle inscribed on the ground that surrounded each one, seeming to mark the "unsafe zone" near the pods
Curiosity peaked, you approach the terminal. It was completely devoid of any lights or levers except for one singular red button directly in the center of the stand, with a digital timer dial just below it.
