This shrinking elixir is too cool to keep to myself, so I decide to text Ollie.
A: Hey! What are you up to?
O: Nothing much. Did you have something in mind?
A: I have something really cool to show you.
O: Come over then! I am in the Bat Cave
Ollie called the game room in his house “The Bat Cave,” which was a pretty suiting name. It was in the basement in an old wine cellar. The walls were made of stone, and it was always cooler than the rest of the house. Carpet had been added when it was converted to a game room. Ollie and his sister had been allowed to choose the color. At the time, the 11 and 8-year-old siblings chose dark purple, which gave off batman vibes.
I place the shrinking potion and antidote back into the box before heading out into the backyard. With ease, I hop the fence into the park and cut across the recently mowed grass. On the other side of the playground, I slip through the narrow catwalk that takes me to Ollie’s house. As always, I let myself in through the basement door. My friend is sitting on a bean bag playing Grand Theft Auto when I walk into the room. He pauses it, “That was quick! What did you want to show me? Did you finally get a hickey?”
I roll my eyes at his comment and hand him the box. Ollie likes to make fun of me since I have yet to kiss a girl. He had been 14 when he had his first kiss and had gone on to kiss many more girls. As a lady’s man, he is constantly messing around with some chick. Though I am not sure if I believe him, Ollie claims to have gone skinny dipping with some of the cheerleaders.
“I found it near the base,” I say. Ollie looks intrigued as he opens the metallic box. His eyebrows raise as he sees the bottles. “This was in there too,” I pass him the notecard.
After reading it, he burst out into laughter. “Dude, you are pulling my leg, right?”
I shake my head with a smile. “No, I can prove it!” With a clunk, I set the apple on his coffee table and grab the shrinking elixir. Just like before, I dump some onto it. Ollie’s mouth drops open as it shrinks before his eyes.
“Dude, no way! This is awesome!” He picks up the tiny apple, tossing it between his hands. “I feel like a giant! I take it the antidote works too?” Nod, putting a couple of drops on it to restore it to normal size. Ollie reads the notecard with increased interest. “You know, this almost sounds like it was developed for human consumption.”
“I had the same thought. Wouldn’t it be cool to be an inch tall!”
