After more than a few strange happenings in Smallville, Lana's family ships her off to distant relatives living in an even smaller town called Farmlet.
Lana is less than enthused about this decision, as she has just turned eighteen and. even with all the weird events going on in and around Smallville, was looking forward to her senior year with all her friends.
So Lana was feeling more than resentful when she moved into her Aunt Annette and Uncle John.
By the time she graduated, she was a lot happier.
For one thing, Farmlet wasn't such a bad little town. Oh, sure, it was the only town in the tri-county that was more than just a spot in the road. It had a couple of stores, a few places to eat, and the school building for the three surrounding counties (which included all the K-12 classes and the administrative offices). It was the kind of town that rolled up its sidewalks at nine o'clock sharp every night. But the town had its high school football team that it rallied around, and the kids found ways to have fun and socialize,
Her senior year, Lana filled a vacant spot on the cheerleading squad and became quite popular. She endeared herself to the other girls by not dating her senior year (wanting to leave all her dating drama in Smallville). So Lana was seen as a confidante who was also not a competitor.
As graduation approached, Daisy decided to spend an off year on her Aunt and Uncle's farm, before attending college in Metropolis. Until the year Daisy arrived, her Aunt and Uncle had been in charge of the dairy farm which all their extended family worked at. When Daisy arrived, her Aunt and Uncle had turned over the reigns of the dairy farm to their forty year old nephew, Wilbur, The elderly couple, along with their only child David, moved to a ten acre microfarm on the edge of town.
Lana and her 14 year old cousin David got along famously. David had guileless blue eyes, a messy mop of blonde hair and a near year round farmer's tan. He was sweet, shy and a hopeless crush on his older cousin, all of which Lana found adorable.
Our story begins the summer just after graduation. David has just celebrated his fifteenth birthday, and his mother and father are going on their first vacation in almost twenty years, a two week cruise in the Bahamas.
Annette and John had no problem leaving Lana in charge. Their niece had proven mature and reliable almost from the day she moved in. They knew their son was completely enamored with Lana and wouldn't cause any problems for her. Plus, their neighbors would be looking in on the kids from time to time. So Annette and John left for their vacation without a worry in the world.
Our story begins on Lana's and David's first day alone, with just them
