Chapter #6

Chief of police, Don Flynn.

by: Scifiwizard Retired Author IconMail Icon
I was not surprised to meet the Chief of police, Don Flynn at the construction site and he did not seem too surprised to see me there either. I was in my hero costume, standing at eight foot and he was in his police uniform. We gave each other a quick nod then approached. The site was closed for the weekend so it was just us there for the moment.

"Are you out for a walk, Tex?" Courtly, he asked.

"We have a possible lead on what Sykes is after." Calmly, I replied. "It's a long shot and the trail is likely cold but its all we got at the moment."

Don grunted. "Let's hear what you got."

"We believe there is something hidden in all that Sykes has been taking." Serious, I explained. "Some kind of crazy scavenger hunt. We suspect Sykes is after what brought about all of our powers and abilities."

Don nodded. "Possible but he would have a huge head start on you." Firmly, he said. "He's been stealing things for twenty years now."

"Which proves he is likely no where closer to finding what he is after." Serious, I countered. "Still, again, its all we have to work with at the moment."

"Well, they saved the cornerstone of the old building; it's in the museum right now." Calmly, Don said. "I can't help you obtain it but you can look at it all you want when the museum opens on Monday."

That was frustrating only I was not about to give up just yet. "Do you mind if I look at the ruins of the old City Hall?"

Don turned to me curious. "What do you expect to find there?"

"Maybe the cornerstone was not the clue." Softly, I replied.

Don's curiosity increased. "What do you mean?"

"The old City Hall was considered the cornerstone of the city." Serious, I explained. "Maybe the cue was not the cornerstone of the building but the building itself."

"There is not much left of the building." shaking his head, Don said. "I don't see what you are going to find by looking at what's left of it."

I walked around the building's old foundation for a moment before smiling. "Cute... Real cute..."

"What did you find?" Curious, Don asked.

"The foundation is shaped like an arrow." Grinning, I replied. "It's pointing to Our Founder's Mall."

After a thought, Don had a grin of his own. "Twenty years ago, the city archives building stood there."

"Our first real clue." Nodding, I said.
